Google Expands to Television Advertising

This morning I heard news that Google will be starting a television platform that will allow consumers to search through their cable channels for a show. This makes a lot of sense for Google. Most of us are familiar with this method of finding things as we have all been trained to use this approach since we started using Google to search the web. Television seems to be the final frontier in terms of media channels for Google. They already own a nice slice of the web, they’ve moved into mobile and now television.

The move will also allow for Google to start running advertising on television. Similar to the AdWords program that Google has running for it’s web search; users will now see advertisements for products and services that relate to the kind of television they watch.  This could be really interesting and incredibly targeted, or, it could just get flat-out annoying.

I’m curious to see how this evolves. Below I’ve posted a video that will explain in Google terms what exactly this platform does and how to participate.
