When Will Twitter and Television Finally Get Married?

Twitter and Television seem to go hand-in-hand. I can’t count how many times I have been watching something and tweeting about at it the same time. I know a lot of shows have tried to make this work and FreeLanceSocialMedia wrote a solid post last year about Glee experimenting with this but I have not heard much since.

Sure, CNN and most news networks are leveraging Twitter to publish real-time information and feedback from viewers but I think it is time for the entertainment sector to get on board.

I’ll bet the major reason is that a large majority of the viewing audience is still mostly an “off-line” group of people. Sure, they prolly hop on Facebook and LinkedIn occasionally but I doubt they are avid tweeters.  Perhaps the answer is to start segmenting television audiences and promoting the appropriate social media channels. I could really see a show like SharkTank tapping the Entrepreneurs that are so active on Twitter and hooking more viewers that way. Start a #SharkTank hashtag or something to get the ball rolling -  at least.

This post could go on forever and the applications are endless for a Twitter and Television Marriage. I’m also sure that moves are already being made. Certainly the @shitmydadsays sitcom will get things heading in the right direction.

Shatner – ’nuff said. (lol)
