Blog post discussing what digital products or services are most effective in shaping an Internet marketing strategy for 2010.

Most small business owners have some sort of relationship with an advertising consultant, even if it is their Yellow Pages representative. Most also have a budget set aside to spend per month, or, per year. Traditionally, what I’ve found is that many of them are not getting the value they once received from traditional advertising mediums like newspapers, YellowPages and radio & television. So I urge them to make sure that the marketing budget has room set-aside for services like web design, search engine optimization (SEO) and social media marketing. Many of the Internet marketing platforms I leverage with clients are free. Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn spring to mind. Video sites like YouTube, Viddler and Vimeo are also popular.

The products I recommend getting started with in 2010 if you have not already are as follows:

A search engine friendly website

Video

Pay Per Click advertising

Link building services

Social Media Marketing

I also recommend NOT to do this all at the same time. I have website first because that is most important. I usually advise my clients to build a website first and if they feel they have money left over in their budget to then consider purchasing video or PPC marketing from a trusted source. Video has been proven to increase purchasing when viewed on a web site sales page by as much as 60%. That’s huge. And if you can find a good consultant to help you discover the best long-tail keywords to describe your business then PPC marketing might also be worthwhile.

Outsourcing is more than a buzzword or trend. The concept of outsourcing has been applied to many industries such as manufacturing, textiles and construction. The idea is simple; find someone to do whatever it is that you don’t want to do yourself. When it comes to Internet business the concept of outsourcing has a different name, Virtual Assistance.

Virtual assistance is a rapidly growing employment option for people who have a skill set that affords them the opportunity to work virtually. Some examples would be an administrative assistant, bookkeeper or travel planner. Some others that spring to mind include Web site designers, search engine optimists and software engineers. All that is needed to perform these jobs is an Internet connection. Due to this virtual skill set, a whole new labor force has evolved and the beneficiary is you.

The benefits of outsourcing to a virtual assistant are many. For starters, there is no need to pay for a salary, insurance benefits or maternity leave. Furthermore, most virtual assistants leverage their own workspace, using their own computer and Internet connection to work for you.

Virtual assistants also tend to be scrappier and more resourceful than the average employee. Let’s face it; becoming a virtual assistant is like becoming an entrepreneur. By working for themselves virtual assistants place a great deal of pride in their work. They realize that their reputation has become their brand and so they work hard to manage that brand effectively.

Finding the right virtual assistant can be daunting. There are several places to look online to find a credible candidate. Simply Google the term “Find a Virtual Assistant” and see what comes back. You will likely have 200 plus pages to look through, each of them providing a different virtual solution to choose from.

Virtual assistants also work by the hour. In most cases, VA’s are hired for a few hours per week to begin with and then work usually ramps up from there -provided the work is sufficient to continue of course.

So it seems that in an age of outsourcing, options for small business owners to leverage outsourcing to a virtual assistant continue to grow daily. If you are even remotely considering such a resource than I would advise you to begin immediately. Because just like the real World, the best virtual employees are being snapped up and utilized to full potential. Those that wait to jump on board will be stuck with mediocre talent at best unless they make a move today. Finding a virtual assistant is easy, finding an expert is another ball game of its own.

Affiliate marketing, when done correctly, can be extremely beneficial for both the affiliate and the publisher. Here are six advantages of affiliate marketing from both sides.

1. For the affiliate: Don?t need to have their own product

A lot of people don?t have the time, money or expertise to create their own product, so affiliate marketing is a great way to make money off other peoples hard work. This also means an affiliate doesn?t have to worry about researching the market to find what people want. Instead they only have to find which products are selling well.

2. For the affiliate: No customer support required

Anyone who has ever had their own product will tell you that customer support is one of the worst parts of running a business. Affiliates get to keep their share of the profits without ever having to worry about being in contact with the customers. All the problems are dealt with by the publishers customer support department.

3. For the affiliate: Only a small investment required

There aren?t many business models which allow you to start up with virtually no investment, but affiliate marketing can be one of them. When using free traffic the only investment is time. Of course, there are paid methods of traffic generation also, but in general becoming an affiliate marketer is a low cost business with the potential of being very profitable.

4. For the affiliate: Working from home

It?s many people?s dream to work from home and only when they feel like it. Affiliate marketing isn?t paid on an hourly rate so you can choose the hours you want to work. Some people do affiliate marketing as a hobby, others as a full time job. The beauty is it?s completely up to the individual. It is important to remember though that the more effort you put into affiliate marketing the greater the rewards in most cases.

5. For the publisher: A much greater audience will be exposed to the product

One of the main advantages for a publisher who has an affiliate program is that the affiliates have the potential to reach a much wider audience then he or she ever could on their own. This means there can be many more sales than there would have been if the publisher was the only person promoting the product, for a relatively small amount of extra effort.

6. For the publisher: Less effort needed to drive traffic

Getting traffic to a website can be a time consuming process, so to have a large amount of affiliates doing this for you is a huge advantage for any publisher. By using affiliates the publisher has to spend less time worrying about getting people to the sales page leaving more time for other areas of the business. Leveraging other people?s effort for your own business is a great way to make a lot of money.

There are many advantages of internet marketing for both the affiliate and the publisher which is why it has proven to be such a successful business model. Affiliate marketing has generated many people a healthy income, and will do so for the foreseeable future.

Article writing is a skill that you can charge for. This guide teaches you how to master the specific skills that businesses need from an article writer or copy-writer.

I just read a recent hiring trend report from Elance.com hiring trends for February and found that article writing is one of the top 5 skills that businesses are outsourcing to freelancers. It’s really no surprise, especially since Elance caters mostly to online businesses. After all, what is the Internet made of? Images and words and it’s those words that are crucially important.

And believe me, most Internet marketers don’t have either the skill or the time to write – or both and that means a lucrative opportunity for people like you with some writing skills.

But outside of article writing, there are other in-demand skills for online ghostwriting, such as copy-writing, blogs, press releases, email marketing, white papers and more. This means less competition for you and more opportunities to specialize and actually charge MORE for your services.

If you’ve been thinking of breaking into ghostwriting and doing it quickly, I recommend this guide to ghostwriting. It will show you:

- How to market your services without spending on advertising
- Where to find clients with deep pockets
- Why and how to put up a professional website
- Which industries are virtual gold mines for ghostwriters
- How much to charge to actually make profit
- How to set yourself apart from your competition
- How to develop your portfolio especially when you haven’t had a single client yet

and more.

To have a successful ghostwriting business, you need the right tools and strategies that successful entrepreneurs use. This guide gives you the stories of two successful ghostwriters who earn a full-time income writing from home. Not only are they inspirational, but they give some great tips too.

The best part is, because this guide is written for Moms, the price is just right. In fact, you’ll easily earn back the cost of this guide with your first writing assignment. I better just stop writing about it and let you check it out yourself. Click here to learn more about the Just Add Sweat Home Business Ideas for Women, Get Paid To Write: Become A Ghostwriter.

Datafeedr is a WordPress plug-in that makes building affiliate stores easy. SEO friendly and PHP based Datafeedr takes datafeeds and product catalogs and turns them into affiliate powerhouses. Select a niche and run.

Becoming Successful at Affiliate Marketing

If you’re an affiliate marketer then you understand the fact that the more products you have to promote, the better commission checks you’re going to receive at the end of every month.

If you’re used to promoting one or two programs at a time, it’s time for you to explore a new option which will allow you to increase your profits more than you ever thought possible.

The world of Internet commerce has created more opportunities for affiliate marketers than any other program ever has – the opportunity to have an entire ecommerce online storefront, full of products you can make commissions off of, all based in whatever niche you choose.

Building Your Own eCommerce Online Store

Having your own ecommerce online store is actually much simpler than most people think. A way to build an affiliate ecommerce store is by using data feeds. Data feeds make it possible to display products from one or more merchants in the same web site.

Data feeds are similar to the RSS feeds used by blogs – an ecommerce store set up by a traditional offline business will place descriptions, pictures, and prices of their products into these feeds, and then affiliate marketers can incorporate these feeds into their own ecommerce store and make a commission off of each product sold.

You can either build your own online store, or you can utilise the services of an ecommerce solutions company like Datafeedr.com who will walk you through all the steps and support you as you get your online presence built.

We recommend using the services of an ecommerce solutions company when building your ecommerce online store, simply because they already have all of the software in place to set up your data feeds.

Data feeds are the lifeblood of an ecommerce online store, as they are the ecommerce software that adds new products for you to promote to the site. Adding products manually to your ecommerce online store is certainly possible, but it is a very time consuming process.

Data feeds take all the guesswork out of adding new products to your ecommerce online site, making it easier for you to make better profits with a wider selection to offer your visitors.

What Are You Waiting For?

There’s never been a better time to build your own ecommerce online store, full of products that you could be making generous commissions from for every sale.

The folks at Datafeedr.com have millions of different products that you can choose from for your ecommerce online store; and are ready to help you get your web site up and running in no time!

Watch the video at Datafeedr.com and see how easy it is to set up your own affiliate data feed stores.

Small businesses turn to digital marketing to help them maintain marketing firepower with limited budgets. A new study shares more on the matter.

You don’t have to look much further than headlines in business publications or research studies to see that many companies are not only losing confidence in traditional marketing and advertising but diligently looking for more productive and cost effective alternatives.

According to a recent Nielsen and Webvisible study, 82% of consumers & small businesses use search to find information online but only 44% of small businesses have web sites & half of those spend less than 10% of their marketing budgets online.

The changing trends in information production, distribution and consumption by consumers coupled with the uncertain times we live in create an unprecedented challenge for companies to better reach and engage with their customers.

Companies are responding to these changes in different ways. A recent epsilon CMO Study reports that “Nearly two-thirds (65%) of CMOs and marketing execs say their ad budgets will decrease because of the troubled economy, but more of their money will go toward digital/interactive marketing than before”.

According to the The DMA ‘Power of Direct Marketing’ report, “Expenditures in the newer online media will maintain significant growth in the coming year” and “internet advertising will claim more than 15% of all direct marketing advertising dollars in 2009.”

Whether the changes in marketing direction are motivated as a response to market and industry conditions, changing consumer behaviors or the need to stay competitive and cost effective, one thing is certain: companies that don’t nail down marketing efficiencies and customer retention are in for a long, cold winter.

Finding more efficient and effective ways to reach customers through digital marketing is what savvy Internet marketing companies like TopRank do best. Whether it’s expanding market share through broader exposure via search engines, building influence and reputation through online public relations or better connecting with customers through social media, now is the time for businesses large and small, to develop strategies that make the most out of the effiencies and measurable impact from marketing online.
