Over the weekend the family and I decided to drink in some Classical music. We attended a Holiday concert that was put on at a local College. The Program was to include a suite of Symphonies pulling from popular and well known compositions to original pieces that were created from scratch by the local Directors.
To be included was a guest appearance by a graduate from the College who has become a very well respected individual and has gone on to work with some of the most elite Orchestras in the World.
What was interesting to see was the different personalities of the individual Conductors/Composers. Furthermore, how the personality came through in the Orchestras performance.
For example when a more confident, experienced Conductor took the stage it raised the performance level of the Orchestra noticeably.
I started to expand this thought and relate it to other areas of my life.
When you are good something and can be passionate about it people notice. Furthermore, they respond by matching your passion. This elevates the whole experience for everyone, including the Audience.
In life, too many times we don’t act based on Passion. Instead we act based on Logic.
And too many times we hear “I’d like to…but…” or “Someday I’ll…”
These types of phrases are hints that Logic has taken over for Passion.
I guess what I’m trying to get at here is when we catch ourselves using these types of phrases we have to ask ourselves if we are listening to the music of our hearts or instead allowing our Logic to overwhelm us? Certainly I’m not suggesting throwing logic out of the door, but, sometimes you have too.
Like the experienced Conductor who has gone on to work with some of the most elite Orchestras in the World we too must follow our passion. Or else, we could end up like the other Conductor, the local High School Band Director who did not follow his heart and instead used logic to play it safe and limit himself.
Maybe I read way to into the dynamic of these two characters but I think there is a theme here. March to the beat of your own Drum (Passion) and life will elevate the experiences accordingly.
